Choosing a Back Cushion for a Shared Home-Working Chair

Lasting Comfort

Sharing a home-working chair means sharing the furniture, not necessarily its settings. A position that feels comfortable for one person can leave the next reaching for the keyboard or sitting away from the backrest.

Check both users before buying

Our cushion is approximately 50 × 47 × 9 cm. Compare that with the shared chair’s usable backrest and the seat room each person needs. For the shorter user, extra padding may reduce an overly deep seat, but it can also move them into a less suitable position. For the taller user, it may remove room they relied on.

There is no reliable way to decide between those outcomes from height alone. Both people should consider their usual keyboard reach, thigh support and comfortable contact with the backrest.

The chair needs somewhere for the strap

Look at the chair from behind as well as in front. Its shape should allow secure attachment without putting a strap across a moving mechanism or relying on a decorative edge. Follow any restrictions from the chair maker. An open back or sharply tapered shape may make the cushion a poor match.

The separate centre pad has an adjustment strap. It offers some choice of contact position, but it does not change the chair’s height or the table’s clearance.

Make resetting easy

  • Keep a short note of each person’s chair height and pad position.
  • Reset before beginning work, rather than compensating by leaning forward.
  • Check that attachment is secure after moving or storing the cushion.
  • Leave space for the keyboard, mouse and any foot support each person uses.

If the chair is fundamentally unsuitable for one user, consider a different seating arrangement instead of asking them to make do. Extra cushioning is optional; suitable furniture comes first.

Help with the decision

If you are unsure about dimensions, send us the chair’s measurements and a description through our contact form. We can clarify product details, although comfort remains individual. You can also review delivery and returns before ordering so the practical arrangements are clear.
