Will a Back Cushion Leave Enough Room at Your Craft Table?

Lasting Comfort

A cushion can look spacious on an empty chair and feel quite different once the project is in front of you. For a craft chair, fit includes the route between the backrest, your hands and the work surface.

Start with three dimensions

Our cushion measures approximately 50 × 47 × 9 cm. Compare its height and width with the usable backrest, allowing for any hard wings or curved edges. Then consider the seat space that remains with padding behind you.

The overall thickness is approximate; the amount it compresses will vary. Avoid treating 9 cm as a precise subtraction from your seat depth. It is a reason to consider the space carefully, especially on a shallow chair.

Check your usual project

Set out the craft you actually do. Fine painting needs room for controlled hand movement; a large paper project may need a wider sweep. Can you reach the work while making comfortable contact with the backrest? Do the armrests still clear the table? Is there room to stand up without catching the project?

Adding padding should leave those movements easy. If it creates a cramped position, the chair may not suit this cushion even if the backrest is technically wide enough.

What the separate pad offers

Our smaller centre pad has an adjustment strap so you can change its position. That can help you find gentler lower-back contact. Pair it with a comfortable table height, good lighting and tools within easy reach.

  • Choose a sound chair with enough backrest and sitting space.
  • Check that attachment is secure and permitted by the chair maker.
  • Leave room to change position and step away from the table.
  • Prefer another solution if built-in support already crowds your back.

Our cushion comes in black, dark grey, light grey and pink. Colour can make it easier to live with in a shared room, but chair fit is the more useful first decision.

If measurements leave you unsure, our contact form is a good place to ask about the product before ordering. Include the backrest size, seat depth and anything that restricts table access.
